Why won't my platen roller turn in the Zebra ZM400

There can be a number of reasons for this, but first some questions:
1) Can you hear a motor running when you expect the platen to be moving?
2) Are the labels loaded properly without any labels stuck to the platen inside?

The roller does not move. I do hear and see the ribbon roller turning. Problem is we are not using a ribbon as he labels are direct thermal.
Labels are loaded properly. Nothing sticking to platen roller.
Most likely the drive belt inside the electronics cover has missing teeth or is completely broken, these are notorious for failing especially the older ones.
The motor connects to the platen via a drive belt and the ribbon drive via a gear on the motor. If the ribbon take-up spindle is moving but the platen is not, you will need to replace the drive belt.
