Removed battery but phone still smells like sickly sweet citrus

Removed battery but phone still smells like sickly sweet citrus

Hi there,

Last night I tried to replace my battery but the adhesive strips broke. In my attempt to remove it I punctured the battery. At first I didn’t realise that the sweet smell was from the battery but, after I found out, I stopped working on it. The battery was still stuck on frame of the screen and I just left it outside for the night.

This morning I managed removed the battery but the smell still permeates the frame. However to notice the smell you have to hold it pretty close. Is it safe to reuse the screen part? I read that lithium ion fumes are toxic. The frame is sitting on my desk as of now. Hopefully I can reuse it.

Edit: Picture of where the battery was attached

Clean up the frame using the guide I provided and after you finish cleaning it you should be good to go.

The guide says that any device that has come into contact with a lithium battery leak should be disposed of. Would wiping down the frame with water be sufficient in cleaning it? There are cables and gaps which expose the back of the digitizer in the frame as well.

@meerkat I see now. If there are any electronics that were by that battery then your phone may be a goner. Take a picture of where the battery was and upload it so I can get a feel of what may be damaged. Ajout d'images à une question existante

The only electronic nearby was the frame with the screen and a few flex cables. Hopefully it is okay.

@meerkat From what I see you should be able to use your phone without any troubles. Of course, you will need a new battery.

Alright, I'll clean it up and wait for the battery to arrive. Also, I have another question. I cleaned up my logic board (which did not come into contact with the leaking battery, it was sitting on table beside me when i tried to get the battery off) with 99% Isopropyl alchohol, but there is still a stain on the shields on the board. I first thought those stains were from water damage and would come off but it's still there.

Its safe to continue with your repair. To remove the smell you can use ethanol/iso alcohol in battery area. Eventually it will disappear.and obviously you will need new battery ;)

If there is some leftover residue from the lithium ion battery, is it safe to use isopropyl alchohol on it? Should I just use water? Or can i just put it outside to air it out?
