Unable to repair usb type c port until I get my screen replaced

Hey guys!

I own a Samsung galaxy s8 and it has a little crack on the corner. It's hardly noticeable even on daily use but it is there. I recently ran into a problem where the phone isn't fast charging at all and is not being recognised in PCs. I took it to multiple Samsung service centers and they said that they won't repair the type c port till I get my screen replaced because the screen will 100% stop working if it is in its current status( because the screen will either break or that cracked part will loose it's support somehow and just fall off and will make the rest of the screen unresponsive). Are they right? Or are they just trying to pry out extra money? Thanks for your answers in advance.

I wouldn’t flat out reject it like Samsung did, but I would warn the customer that the screen could get worse. Yes, their concern is legitimate and you do need to be careful with a cracked phone. That said, most of the time the phone is too far gone to the point you need one anyway, so it's not an issue in most cases.

For good measure, that would also involve a waiver stating they are okay with the risk of needing a screen and if it breaks they have to pay for it to get it repaired at the same time or the phone would be assembled with the broken charge port and returned until it is replaced.

It's a poor situation but if I were to open a Samsung with a cracked screen, to fix something, I'd expect to replace the screen as well due to the tear down process and out having a weak point. Someone else may disagree, but I wouldn't say I could do it.

Unfortunately they are right the crack will worsen and as the screen may still work fine the (possibility) of the screen being further damaged and unresponsive they wont touch it.. new screen or somebody very skilled with a heat plate..
