1 2018 Mac Mini internal sockets
Does the 2018 Mac Mini have a spare PCIe socket like the 2014 mac mini had; creating the potential to add our own ribbon cable and internal storage?

The images in the Apple Keynote only partially show one side of the motherboard and don’t tell the whole story.
Yes, I understand the onboard SSD’s are soldered to the main board and APFS no longer supports fusion drive, but simply stating points from Apple’s keynote is not the same as confirming what sockets exist on the PCB with a full visual inspection.
A lot of us have spare SSD’s and Mac PCIe ribbon cables laying around.
My first 2018 Mac Mini is on order now. If iFixit doesn’t post a teardown I’ll gladly come back and post my own here and on YouTube in two weeks when it arrives. I have BGA soldering station at work, guess I might as well put it to good use lol, anyone else ever replace a surface mount SSD?

Walk through the Apple Mac Mini overview page If you look carefully you'll see the logic board is mounted with very little room to the upper case similar to how the MacBook Pro is mounted (nothing possible on the other side). The fan and its duct work takes over the space the SATA or PCIe drives had occupied.
Don't get me wrong! I too wished it offered a second drive port. None of the T2 systems as of yet offer a second internal drive port.
One surprise! Mojave does support Fusion Drives now with APFS. Still no RAID support.
As far as replacing the raw flash chips keep in mind Apple uses a custom chips in their iMac Pro and MacBook Pro's. I'm sure they are still using these custom chips here.

I don’t know, but I don’t have high hopes for that either. Guess we will just have to wait and see what the iFixit teardown finds for us.

Do you, in general, know how long it takes before iFixit does a teardown on a new product? My Mac Mini is due to arrive mañana.
