LG 55UF6800-UA has sound and backlight, no picture.

I was recently watching TV and it came up with an update. Ran the update and walked away for a couple hours. I came back and the TV has sound and back light, no picture. No picture with the flashlight test. I have 13 volts at the fuse on the T-Con board, and i replaced the T-Con board but having the exact same issue. One thing i noticed is that when i first apply power to the TV, the back lights come on without hitting the power button and sometimes start flickering. If i turn it off via the power button and back on usually the flickering is gone, but still no picture. I have found if i unplug the 3 wire harness coming from the main board to the T-Con board the flickering always goes away, and starts when i plug it back in. Not 100% where to go next, if it could be the Main board or Power supply board. Also don’t know if the update had anything to do with it, or if it was a coincidence.

Looking for some help how to verify the exact issue before just throwing another board at it.

under usual circumstances I would suggest that this is a main board issue. Since this happened after an update it is possible that this is a failed update. You already replaced the T-con board, you could go ahead and replace the main board and see if that yields any results.

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think main board as well. I'm finding with my meter if i test the test pads where the LVDS cable comes in on the T-Con, i get .7 volts, but it then slowly goes down to 0. Any suggestions where i might find one? It appears to be very difficult to find one.

Hi @kreechur ,

Not sure if this will work but perhaps worth a try as a lot of TVs check the USB port for an appropriately named update file when first starting.

Try manually updating the firmware again and check if this may resolve the problem

Here’s a link to the support page for your model.

Click on the Software, Firmware and drivers link to find the software file and TV software update guide downloads.

Click on the Reference link in that section to verify that your model is on the list of applicable models. If it isn’t you can brick the TV by installing the wrong firmware.

In the TV software update guide, find how to manually install the firmware via USB.

If this doesn’t work, contact LG as it seems too coincidental that your TV failed directly after doing an automatic update.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried the USB with firmware and there was no change.

I have repaired this model under warranty many times. As it was a warranty, a replacement panel was shipped. Took out boards from TV and installed them into the new panel. You Tube shows how to replace LEDs. But this can be a complete waste of time. Trust me. Thanks for asking, Matt of Martins TV Repair.

Update (07/02/2021)

YOU HAVE A BAD PANEL. I HAVE REPAIRED THIS MODEL SEVERAL TIMES UNDER WARRANTY.

THE PANEL IS THE ACTUAL SCREEN YOU WATCH TV. OUT OF WARRANTY MAKES THIS UNIT

TO COSTLY FOR REPAIR.

THANKS FOR ASKING, MATT OF MARTINS TV REPAIR.
