Deaf man needs to make a kitchen timer with a flashing light

I am a senior who has lost his hearing. I have several kitchen timers BUT many times I do not hear them go off. Is it possible to make/buy a digital screen timer with a flashing light for the alarm ? PS: timer would ideally be in minutes and seconds, up to a max of 2 hours.

PPS Amazon does not have anything like what I need.

Thanks

Hello Richard - How big / bright does the light signal need to be? IF you have a phone (Apple or Android) they have timer functions on them that use the vibrate function, could you not use that as timer?

hello Lel, the light does not need to be super bright. Certainly much less than a reading light. Perhaps something as bright as an old fashion Xmas tree light. Just something that would catch my eye as a I watch TV or am involved in reading a book.

@ramses2 luckily there are plenty of options and thos timers are readily available. Something like this might work for you. If not, I am sure we could all get our heads together and design one for you.

I THINK I may have located what I need. It was listed as a timer for the deaf/hard of hearing. It CLAIMS to have a flashing light AND a very loud buzzer. If the flashing light is bright enough it should work. I'll buy it and if it does not do the job I may ask for help designing one.

Thanks to one and all for your kind input

Hi Jayeff, Thanks for sending that link. After reading customer comments, I seriously doubt that that timer/alarm would have a light (blinking ?) bright enough to catch my eye unless I was looking right at it.

Hi @ramses2 ,

Fair enough.

You may have noticed that it also has a vibration alert as well.

It is small enough to put in your pocket so that you could "feel" when the time is up.

BTW I'm not pushing this, just trying to think of different options ;-)

There may be one in this link that is suitable.

Have you looked at Philips Hue products? Philips Hue Starter Kits.

Basically, you control the light via your smartphone Apple App Store - Philips Hue

Using the App you can gang up a few lights that alter their light color or on/off at set times. Using a few Siri scripts you can create a bunch of preset timers you could select. You can place the lights around your home so no matter where you are you can see the alarms alert.

While this is not an out of the box solution it would be fun to create! Here’s someone who is doing this The Deaf Mama

Hi Dan , Thanks for the info. I don't use a smart phone. Too smart for me. HaHa. Later today I will, however look through the link you gave me to see what's there that might be of use.

I got a lamp for my self to replace the light I have with a timer so in the morning it would wake me. What I wanted was a gradual raising of the light so it would be less of a shock than the snap on I've been facing. In the winter is when I need it.

I can tell you its quite good! My need is different than your needs.
