Mid 2009 internals into 2011 model?

I’ve got a mid 2009 2.53 GHz Macbook Pro from college that had snapped at the lid bracket. I went through alot trying to fix it myself and managed to ruin the bluetooth, wifi, and webcamera connection ports.

A new display assembly would be great but at $325 for C-Stock its not really in the budget. I managed to find a few A1286 models on eBay for $120, no HDD, no RAM basically just for parts.

My hope was to take the internals from my mid 2009 model and give life to a 2011 model while also upgrading the RAM to 16GB (or 8 should it not work).

Has anyone had any experience doing something like this? Is it as simple as pulling the HDD and other components and plugging them in?

Well you can salvage your HDD putting it into your 2011 system.

The RAM on the other hand can’t be reused as it’s the wrong specs

  • Mid 2009 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIM
  • Early 2011 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

I hope the system you buy is functional.

Sorry, but you’ll have to forget about A1286 i5/i7 display assemblies for your 2009 model, they have entirely different connectors and will not fit. However, if you have a little patience, I’m sure you’ll be able to find a used display at a decent price..consider that right now, for the price you mentioned, you can almost buy a full Macbook Pro of the same series you have.
