Can MacBook Pro late 2012 2.9 i7 non retina be upgraded to retina?
I am wondering if MacBook Pro 2012 2.9 i7 13” non Retina display can be upgraded to Retina display? Model A1278

No. Apple always use custom parts, meaning it is basically impossible to find upgrade parts outside of their original specification range.

But they have a 2012 Retina display already. I am wondering if I can take that screen and put it onto a non retina model
2012 retina machine is a fundamentally different machine, different chassis and parts, there is nothing in common between the two.
The method of how the display communicates is different between the two. The original ones used LVDS the retina models use iDP (eDP) signaling.
Just like how FM radio signals can't be picked up by an older AM only radio. Thats the technical reason you can't do it.
