Only switches on with charger or USB connected

I have a 2nd gen nano that works only when connected to charger or when connected on USB . As soon as cable is discConnected it switches off & does not turn on. I think it is anbattery issue but I'm unsure. How can I confirm if it is a battery or motherboard issue.

Options

You really can't make that determination unless you have the apple cable to test that. In this case I would change the battery. Since it works when it is plugged into an external power source, it is most likely the root of your problem. Good Luck
