How to clean cd & cassette player

For CD player:

Get 99.9% alcohol (not your average 70% alcohol but that will work also) and microfiber cloth. (use cotton swabs as a last resort as they leave fibers)

You must be able to see the laser. Lightly dampen the cloth. Be sure to not have it too wet so that it drips. Clean laser GENTLY! It move up and down and can get damaged with too much PRESSURE!.

Try a lens cleaner disc. These discs brush the CD drive lightly, removing dust. In most cases, a cleaner disc is less effective than the methods above, and a low-quality disc could even cause more damage.^[8] Try it if nothing else works, or skip to the next step if you're willing to try more complex repairs. Cleaner discs usually run automatically when you insert them, but check the product instructions first.

• Do not use a CD cleaner disc on a combination CD/DVD player. Cleaner discs made for CD players will scratch a DVD drive.^[9]
• Check the product label for warnings before buying. Some discs are not compatible with some devices.

For Tape Player

2. Remove the tape from the deck.

4. Open up the tape compartment.

6. Gather Isopropyl alcohol (70-80%)Q-tips and a lens cleaning cloth.

8. Soak the Q-tip in the alcohol.

10. Clean the heads. Press fast forward and rewind so that the heads move. This will allow you to clean the heads more evenly.

12. Clean the pinch roller. Press play so the roller is moving when you clean it. This part tends to be very grimy.

14. Clean the capstan. This will also move when you press play. The capstan is the thin metal roller to the left of the pinch roller.

16. Using the lens cloth, wipe out any other areas that appear dusty or dirty.

18. Insert your tape.

20. Rewind the tape to the start, then fast forward to the end. This will smooth out the tape and any wrinkles that occurred when the tape came out should go away. Rewind and fast forward until the tape plays smoothly.
