micro SD Card write protection

It might be stupid question to someone but this is bothering me for a gooood while.

If micro SD card inserted into say Samsung tablet and formatted I can not find any way how to reformat it back on windows! but if you insert the same card say in dash cam or other device sure it can be formatted with no issues but when inserted into PC is the same $@$* - you can only access files but not format the card as its write protected! HELP PLEASE…

I have few micro SD cards and this is really annoying as I need one to use with Windows PC..

Insert the SD card into your PC's card reader. Open a Command Prompt as administrator. Type "diskpart" and hit RETURN. When diskpart has loaded, type "list disk" and hit RETURN. Look for the drive entry that's your SD card (compare the capacities) and note which disk number it is.

IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU SELECT THE RIGHT DISK NUMBER BECAUSE YOU WILL BE COMPLETELY ERASING THAT DISK IN THE NEXT STEP.

Type "select disk #" with # being the disk number of your SD card and hit RETURN. Type "clean" and hit RETURN. This will remove all partition and formatting information from the SD card. When it's done type "exit" and hit RETURN, then close the Command Prompt window.

Eject the SD card, then reinsert it and Windows should prompt you to format it.

Thanks Steve for your suggestion but I have tried many things including the one you have mentioned - it comes with -

'DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

See the System Event Log for more information.'

My cards is 100% genuine high speed SanDisk and 100% working with 100% capacity....

Sounds like a problem with your PC's card reader then. Do you have a card that's already formatted for Windows? If so, put it in, verify that it works, then try the diskpart/clean/format process with it. If it fails then your issue is with your PC, not with the cards.

OMG it is sorted! Apparently I have specific card reader which is protecting data I totally forgot about it! I just used USB card reader and formatted with no problems. You are STAR ! Thank you Steve!

Actually Mike, the proper answer should be the one from @secondlife as he initiated the process that led to the solution.
