Need help Installing new HDD and OSX with old info copied from old HD

Looking to install the above hard drive in my old MacBook Pro.

I need some guidance in copying my old drive to the new one and installing OSX. Probably formatting guidance as well. I’m confident in the physical install.

The computer is currently functioning and I have the new drive plugged in as an external. The old one is currently running El Capitan Version 10.11.6 and is too old to go any higher.

Options

Install the new HDD as usual and boot to your El Capitan install USB.

Enter Disk Utility and click your hard drive located on the left hand side to highlight it and then choose Erase

Enter a name for your hard drive (default is “Macintosh HD” but you can name it whatever you want.) and choose your format (usually “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”) and GUID partitioning table. Exit Disk Utility.

Proceed to install macOS.

Once installed, you will be asked if you wish to transfer data. Connect your old hard drive to the MacBook Pro and then choose “From a Mac, Time Machine backup, or another startup disk”. and click continue.

Select the data you wish to transfer (typically everything), assign a password to the migrated user account, and then allow it to complete.

Once complete, disconnect the external hard drive and you should be good to go.

So I've formatted the drive to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled" and GUID partitioning already before I've put it inside the mac. Am I good to just go ahead and plug it in? Also, How do i create an El Capitan install USB?

To create the install USB, download El Capitan from the AppStore (click this link to open a web browser to open the download in AppStore): (https://itunes.apple.com/app/os-x-el-cap...) and then connect an 8GB or greater Mac OS Extended (Journaled) GUID formatted USB. For ease of use, name this USB drive "USB". Launch Terminal and then run the following command:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USB --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app

If you have already formatted your new hard drive, then you have part of it done already. After creating your install USB, shutdown the MacBook, physically install the new hard drive, reassemble Macbook. Plug in install USB you created and power on the computer while holding Option. Choose your USB drive to boot from and then follow the prompts to install El Capitan on your hard drive. See my post about data migration to complete the process.
