I recently replaced the LCD screen cover on my Mac. When I started my laptop afterwards, the screen lit up, but I could only see a white screen and image outlines. Should I replace the display cable and inverter.

If the device works fine on external screen then you should consider that screen cable got loosen on connector on LCD or MoBo.
If you’ve managed this repair on your own then I would suggest you to check the cable and secure the connector with electrical tape in order to prevent losses. You should also be aware if the cable got damaged (especially on hinges) and probably try to clean the gold pins (if you’ve ever detached cable from screen)
