Pressure relief valve leaking

I have a leaking pressure relief valve in a electric hot water heater.it heater has been drained and off for about 6 mts, when I filled it up and it got hot it started leaking, now that it’s cooled down it’s still leaking but slower. Do I just replace the valve or is something else causing it?

I experience the same problem and I’'ve already changed the valve

Hi @olliebob ,

Try replacing the pressure relief valve.

If the new valve also starts leaking then you may have a problem elsewhere especially if there is a regulator or backflow prevention device installed in the supply to the premises.

Some of them are really poorly made, are you convinced you got a good quality one? You can think it can't be the valve’s fault as it’s a new one, but there are a few that you can get roughly one day of use out of. I think one of my friends experienced something similar, I might be wrong with the info I give cause I don't have a lot of experience with this part, but I'll try anyway. So what I think he did was change the strainer with a Y one, so the pressure could be easier to release and that might stop said pressure from fissuring the valve. I can also indicate the site where he bought the strainer from https://anixusa.com/y-strainer cause he didn't have any problems with it and as I said, it's important to get quality components if you want to get any use out of them.
