The folder means that it is not finding your OS or hard drive. Did you install OSX on there before you installed the drive into the computer? If not, I believe that your computer’s highest compatible OS is Sierra.
My response to your comment:
Sierra will still work on the Samsung Drive. If you don't have a bootable installer, the easiest way for you to install it would be to put your old drive back in the computer. First off, Buy the sata to usb cable that Dan is talking about. Make sure you unplug the battery before swapping the drives out both before and after the install. Boot to your old hard drive. If the install sierra app is not already in your applications folder go ahead and download it from the app store. Connect the SSD to your computer using your USB to Sata cable. Open the Disk Utility app and select view --> all devices. Under external drives, you will see your samsung SSD. Make sure it is the Samsung SSD before doing this(you will lose all of your data otherwise!!), but you will go ahead and select the SSD from that menu and hit erase. You will see a menu with 3 options of info to select in this order: Name, File Format and Scheme. For the name, name it whatever you want. For the file format, choose Mac OS Extended, and for Scheme, choose GUID Partition map. If there is only 2 options when you are at this step, make sure you have all devices selected under view. Pick the top option of the Samsung drive, not the dropdown option and you will see the 3 options when you hit erase. After formatting the drive, you can run your Install Sierra application. When Prompted to select the install destination, pick the drive with the Name that you gave your samsung drive. Wait until the install process is ALL THE WAY complete, then put your fresh new SSD in to the computer. You should be good to go from there.
