2009 MacBook Not Charging

Hi there,

I own a 2009 Macbook that I’ve owned since 2009. I’ve never changed it’s battery or had this problem before. But as of last week my Macbook stopped charging.

My computer had been notifying me to replace the battery soon. So to try and solve the problem, I bought and installed a new battery.

This hasnt solved the problem though and it still will not charge. I also own two chargers that both work on other macbooks, but when plugged into my macbook, the amber light that usually lights up on the adapter doesnt light up. When the computer could turn on it also said it was not charging when attached to either charger.

At this point I think it must be a logic board issue, and I do have experience soldering so I’m a bit confident I could fix the problem myself. But I dont know where to start. If anyone knows how to fix this sort of problem, please let me know :)

Nobody can tell how to fix such issue without testing the logic board patiently and thoroughly, charging circuit is made by tens of different components and it’s sufficient one fails to stop charging. You should start with the u7000 and all related components, resistors and mosfets and look for possible shorts on caps and IC too. You’ll have to find online schematics for your board that is likely 820-2567 and a boardview and start probing circuits and components until you find the faulty one.
