Worstcase happend - Display has dropped after replacement of hdd

Hi Folks.

I went trough all the steps and doesn’t missed anything. However after 1 week the display was dropped over the night. Luckely all connector seems fine and not broken the display is also save. To not run again into it - what did I wrong? All glue stribes where sitting on the right place. In addition, I didn’t get the display off again, after which I put it back temporarily. Does one have to press the display for a longer time to avoid that. I'm frustrated. Hope to get some help.

Hey , thanks guys.

No I don’t forgot to replace the adhesive stripes. It could be possible that I didn’t clean it as needed. Will do that after the new stripes arrived. Many thanks. Will report …

Sounds like you forgot to replace the adhesive strips:

Did you fully clean the old adhesive?

I use Goof Off but it leaves a film which needs to be cleaned off as well.

I use GooGone. But also a pocket knife and catch the edge and peal it right off.

This is pretty much why I never service these in my repair shops. If one of these breaks on a client that's $200+ lost on a screen. Personally on one of mine I use masking tape easy to take off and put back on (transparent scotch tape is best) to keep the screen on the corners.

@benjamen50 - No need for the exposed masking tape! I haven had a screen fall off on the systems I've fixed. Just like iPad's the technique is mostly the trick here.

After fully cleaning the edge and mounting the tapes I use a tongue suppressor to press the tapes down fully before peeling off the top sheets as I mount the display.

Next, after the display is mounted which is done when the system is flat on its back (I made a set of wood blocks to support the system this way. I then use a rubber roller to press the display glass down around the edge. Thus both sides of the tape have been firmly pressed into the surfaces they mate into.
