It is my own device. i have noticed on closer inspection that . the top ribbon cable which i assumed connected the front facing camera to the motherboard has slightly torn. hence the earpiece, front facing camera are not working.

could i assume this cable is also, linked with the home button?

i have attempted to circle the ribbon i amreferring to.

That cable is only for the items located on the top of the screen (proximity sensor, ear speaker, etc). The home button joins the ribbon cables that plug in near the battery. The cable could be damaged between the plug on the home button and the motherboard which you could determine by using a different screen. Generally if you are getting no functionality from the button it has been damage somewhere on the home button flex cable.

Thanks for the comforting reply lol. I was starting to stress after discovering the lame and restricted design of the home button being paired with the motherboard.

when I sidetracked and realised that the lcd cable isnt directly connected to the home button but it has a additional connection in between.

So i will fiddle with the cable connection from the screen side and then aim to replace screen if I have no luck.

thanks for your swift responses and help.

i will post back, to check in on my results.

You could try it in the broken screen assembly and see if maybe the cable is damaged on the new screen assembly.

That is an absolute best case scenario. I would guess you likely damaged the home button itself in which case you cannot fix it without going to Apple. The are aftermarket options like the JC Home button which basically adds a bluetooth home button in place of the original but it will only restore home button functionality not touch id.

If it is a customers device you are either stuck replacing the device or having it fixed through Apple unless you can work something else out.

If you did not remove the home button from the screen then you probably just need a new screen. For some reason I didn't realize you said after a battery replacement. If you simply unplugged the screen you probably just twisted or pulled just a little too much and damaged the cable on the screen assembly. Luckily a screen assembly is much cheaper than getting the home button replaced through Apple.
