Does the DC in control the power button?

Hello all,

So, Yesterday I went to reapply thermal paste to my CPU and GPU chips. First time doing this but I seemed to successfully take everything apart and put everything back together no problem.

The thing is, I went to power on my system and everything seemed to run except the display itself.

Double checked my LVDS connection and all other connections for that matter. Everything was in properly. I ended up dissassembling and reassebling my system about 3 times very carefully.

By the last time I assembled it I rushed it and accidentally crushed my MagSafe DC In Board wires with the LVDS bracket.

The computer now wont even respond to the power on switch. I suppose my question is, if I plugged my mac in like this (and I did) and the dc input wires shorted out, would this completely fry my logic board?

Battery indicator light still shows charge. Power on button has no respone and I’m hoping it has something to do with the DC in.

Also I did reset in SMC mode. No dice with the screen. Now I can’t retry because my power button wont respond.

Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated because I’m sure Apple would have a field day fixing this and charging top dollar.

DC ins are $16 and LVDS cables are like $30-40, so I suppose I’d rather take my chances and possibly learn something than just pay some “genius”.

Thanks all, hope everyone is enjoying their tech today!!

Can post photos if needed.

I would start off replacing the MacBook Pro Unibody 13" and 15" MagSafe DC-In Board As you likely cut the wire when you crushed it.

Even still I would take a continuity measure of the lines and inspect the wires. Let us know which wires got damaged.

Thanks for quick response, the dc in has been replaced the computer now powers on but I am still having a display issue, my lvds connection looks perfect but there seems to be no power to the lcd at all, Ive shined a torch to see if it was just the backlight but the whole display is disconnected somehow..? I have the compuer plugged into my tv so I can see whats happening. After all the effort my cpu seems to be running hotter aswell. Could this be due to the type of heatsink plaster I used? I used some generic brand from jaycar and think I shouldve got a good brand name... thanks again in advance!

Lets inspect the LVDS cable connector and the socket as I suspect thats the issue. disconnect the battery and then the LVDS cable take a nice tight sharp picture of the connector end as well as the socket so we can see the solder joints and then directly into the connectors throat as best as you can. Post the pics here so we can see Ajout d'images à une question existante
