Kenmore is a popular appliance brand commonly sold by Sears, but Sears does not manufacture any of the appliances themselves. Instead, they source that out and have other manufacturers make their appliances for them. Kenmore refrigerators are made by a variety of different manufacturers including LG, Electrolux, GE, and Whirlpool.

Kenmore 10658902802 side-by-side water overflowing from ice maker

For the past year our ice maker has been making icicles and dripping water on the food in the freezer. I just took the ice maker out and allowed it to defrost and put it back in. The same problem has returned. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to check for power to the water inlet valve. If the water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve.

Here’s a video on how to test it and the correct part for your model:

UPDATE 6/20

You can generally tell if you water pressure is to low by checking your washing machine. If there is a slow drip into the tub, the pressure is to low. (nice tell)

Hi @joshua12585 ,

Did you check that the water pressure is at least 20 psi?

If you don't have a pressure test gauge - example only it may be a good investment.

If the water pressure is only about 20 psi coming into the premises it may be less at the outlet to the refrigerator.

Quote from this webpage

"Low Water Pressure from House Supply

The water inlet valve supplies water to the refrigerator ice and water dispenser. The valve requires a minimum of 20psi to work properly. If the water pressure is too low, the valve may not close fully when the power is shut off. As a result, the valve leaks water into the ice maker, causing it to overflow. Check the water flow and test the pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi."

I know I have 48 psi coming into the house from the water tower across the street. We've lived here for 10 years, and this issue has only been occurring in the last year.

Similar issue ice maker stopped working then started then overflowed then repeated. Water pressure hasnt changed. Hard to troubleshoot since it makes a giant mess when failing!

Still have the same issue. Not sure why. Just placed an ice cube tray underneath to catch the overflow.
