will phone operate with broken bezel

I had to replace a swollen battery, that was so swollen it rendered my home button inoperable; practically separating the back of the device from the screen. So, I replaced the battery and in the process cracked the plastic frame bezel around the screen where the pentalobe screws attached in the bottom. Anyway I put it all back with a new battery, but get nothing. It was working before I replaced the battery, except when it “zinged out” when I broke the bezel. So I’m wondering what do I need to replace to fix it?
