Snooze'd my alarm, woke up to overheated phone with black screen?

No seriously. I have no clue what happened. I've been repairing iPhones for a living for 7 years now.

This morning, my alarm rang at 11:00 per usual. And per usual, I pressed "Snooze".

However, when I woke up at 12:30, I realized that it hadn't rang, so I grabbed my phone, which was not charging.

The phone was insanely hot and the screen was black, but lit.

I did a hard reboot, but it only shut it off. It wouldn't respond to a cable.

I let it cool down for 5 minutes then I popped it open and installed a brand new battery.

Now, all that it's doing is bringing up the Apple logo one second, then shutting down and starting again.

It has a brand new battery and had time to cool down.

Next step is to try a DFU restore, but I'd like to avoid that because I have about 12 2FA apps and restoring those are a &&^&^$^ pain in the ass.

What's your guys opinion on this ?

Spontaneous component failure can and does happen. Heat is the giveaway that something shorted and damaged the logic board. You’ll just have to treat this as a “dead phone” and apply typical board-level troubleshooting for this kind of failure.
