Why is my coffee machine overheat and making a lot of steam

I have a breville the barista express BES870XL/A, I have a problem once I open the machine and put the portafilter in the group the pump just kick off a lot of steam instead of high pressure of water to make an espresso please share with mw your answers if you have any experience
