No display or backlight. Water and/or fuse/IC gone?

Hello! My wife's macbook got water spilled in it and didn't work (made beeping noise only). I poked around in it trying to fix it when very tired (stupid!) and shorted something when the multimeter slipped and had a little spark came out. I also damaged the display connector slightly trying to disconnect it (should've read iFixit better). Not had much luck recently and much swearing at myself has been done! :(

Then found the beeping was due to RAM error. Pulled the bad RAM and it now boots fine and runs off an external display. I still have no internal backlight or display picture though. Looking in "About This Mac" for the internal display it says:

Display Connector:

Status: No Display Connected

So it can't recognise the internal display. I've carefully checked the slightly damaged display connector and *think* it's ok, and also pressed/wiggled it with it on but nothing happens/flickers/etc. So what should I do next?

Is there a display fuse of any kind? I was looking on the internet and found info about backlights and their associated fuse/driver chip. What about the display signal though? Any ideas?

Where can I check for video signal and/or what triggers the display connected status? Is there a simple way to tell if it's the display itself or driver chip/interface?

Should the backlight try to come on only when it recognises the display or is the backlight and display two separate problems?

Also, if it does turn out to be the 30-pin(?) display connector is there somewhere I can buy a replacement to solder on, or is it a whole new logic board from apple? Any part numbers/brand for the connector available?

I have a decent multimeter here, and an oscilloscope at work if required.

Thanks for your help.

Is there a way to check the cable without buying one? Or any voltages I can measure? I want to fix it cheap, else sell as-is as I'm too broke to spend anything over a few quid unless it guarantees a fix! If it costs a lot to fix I'd have to sell it too, in which case I'd be better selling in its current state!

I'm not scared of a bit of soldering. One of my jobs about 10 years ago was mending mobiles phones (although I've got a bit rusty sine then). I'd just need to know the parts to get.

There are only three options of what could be wrong with the display. It could simply just be the cable is bad or the LCD is bad. Worst case its the connection on the logic board that is broken.

I would first get a cable and see if that fixes the problem, if that does not work you can try a different LCD. If the problem is the logic board, maybe you could find a logic board repair place and they could do some soldering for you.

Hope that helps, good luck!
