So my Coolpad note 5 got dropped in water. Picked it up immediately and it was working for few minutes before the screen flickered and display went out. Phone is still on the LED for charging and notification is working , phone is vibrating with notification, just the display is completely off. Please help me what to do next.

Billy Williams  it is not the digitizer that needs to be replaced. If your LCD does not turn on after water damage it is possible that it is your display that has failed and it will be best to replace the complete display assembly. LCD and digitizer combined since those are fused together. The other real issue here is that it is a water damaged phone. Regardless on how long it was submerged it will possibly have damaged the circuitry or can cause corrosion failure later on.

The very first thing you want to do is to no longer try to turn your phone on. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using something like this video and others. You must remove all the EMI shields of the logic board. If you do not remove those you are not cleaning 3/4 of the board. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for an Apple iPhone 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred missing or broken missing. You can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220 deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. If you still have a totally blank screen after that, it is possible that it is A: a bad LCD backlight (replace the LCD) or B: a short on the circuitry on the logic board. Let us know what you find. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks a lot for the detailed information.

Some updates : I could not turn my phone off as the only way to do it is to hold the power button and tap when a screen for "Turn off" appears. And as there's 0 visibility it couldn't be done. Battery can not be removed it's inbuilt. I put it in rice last night and about 12 hrs has been after that. This morning I took it out and turns out that the visibility is back. Last night before the screen died the capacitive keys weren't working but now they working again. There's a damped area visible on the lower part of the screen, u could see the water, it's kind of wet. But otherwise everything else seems to be working. I did not put it on charging but battery is low now. What should I do next ? Also, I can't open it as the required screw driver is much smaller than the one I have. Am I out of danger ?

No Sir. The only way you are going to get this fixed is by decontaminating your board etc. you have to open your phone. The best I can say is that you will have to get the right tools to work on it. Of course you can also get the phone to a repair shop that can do this for you. The longer you wait the more corrosion and the greater the chance your phone will never work again.

Rice does not work. It does not do anything. It will not prevent corrosion, clean your phone or get the water out of your phone. It is a waste of time and good rice.

Ok thanks. I figured it'll be better to leave it to the professionals so I gave it to a shop. They r charging me quite a lot and said they're gonna replace the lcd and something else that is connected with it, something that comes as a combo or something I don't know... but they're gonna replace that, and clean it. Apparently u can't change the display without changing the screen... so my screen will be replaced again even though it's fine. I hope they know what they're talking about. I will post again when they give it back and hopefully it'll work.

Yes please do. Water damage is the hardest to repair since pretty much any part can have failed. Let us know what they did.

my solution was to use a dark cupboard, press bixby button to see the screen was faint. switch on using normal methods, swipe screen down to access 1st screen settings, then swipe [L to R] on brightness slider to make screen visible again. something set brightness to min!!!
