Hard Drive icon missing in 10.6

I just opened the box on this baby. 10.6 pre-installed. I can't find a hard drive icon. Has it become a hidden file? I have a Hard Drive icon on my MacBook Pro but it was upgraded to 10.6.

Solution retenue

Options

check Finder -> Preferences... (Cmd-comma), make sure Hard Disks is checked in "show these items on the desktop"
