My Macbook pro display has stopped working. On examination, the mechanic has advised to replace the LVDS cable and Max2317 chip. I found enough information on LVDS cable but I'm not able to get any info on this Max2317 chip. Can someone help me about this part, part# and any suggestions for the replacement.

I've never heard of this chip being replaced. For that matter, I can't even find any information on this chip. Also no information on it ever being replaced. Please tell us more about your problem. Also would you hook your machine up to an external monitor and tell us if it works.
