I have a Samsung UN65ES6550F television that I heard a crackle then pop and some smoke from the back right side then turned black the other night. Standby light blinks twice five times then pauses and repeats and makes a clicking noise. I took off the back cover and found a burned component on the power board BN4400545A but not sure what it is called. Found a comparable replacement component on shop jimmy and installed but still the same does not turn on standby light and makes clicking noise. What else should I test? Pictures attached.

Hi @ VOLT KRIS,

Unplug the power cord from the TV and then disconnect the cable that connects the power board to the mainboard, reconnect the power cord to the TV and switch on the TV and check that the backlights turn on in the screen.

If not there may be a problem with the backlights that is preventing the TV from starting.

If they do turn on OK , switch off the power to the Tv and disconnect the power cord from the TV, reconnect the mainboard to the power board and near the connector where the cable from the mainboard connects to the power board you should find printed on the power board the voltage values for the different wires going to the mainboard.

Reconnect the power to the TV, turn it on and measure the voltages at the connector.

SAFETY WARNING

Familiarize yourself again with how to use the multimeter before you begin.

Be safety aware when you start to measure voltages as even though you are measuring DC voltages there is still exposed lethal AC voltage available on the power board - stay focused on what you're doing and where you're doing it!

Clicking noise is usually an indication the power supply is trying to reset itself but is running into a problem with a defective component. There are probably one or more other components that were damaged at the same time as the component you replaced. Multimeter time for checking voltages, shorted power transistors, diodes etc.

My TV in the 40" class had a similar problem, and it fixed itself after two or three years of that problem. LED Motion Plus causes it to come back again, last I checked.

I agree with prop man. If a component blew up like that, it means there was short or defect in the wiring. Check the other traces and components for any signs of damage. If you see a component, try cleaning it first, to make sure it’ actually damaged and not just dirty.

Good luck!
