My kindle makes a sound when power is pressed, but won't turn on.

I accidentally left my Fire HD8 under a comforter while charging it; I’m pretty sure it overheated. There was something that looked like condensation on the edge of the screen, but after the kindle cooled down the screen looked normal again. When I press the power button, though, it makes a ringing sound but won’t turn on. I took off the back cover, but I don’t know what the problem is. Maybe battery, but I’m not sure. What should I do?

If your device seems to be working with no LCD, check the board where the screen connects for any problems. A reconnect could solve all your problems.

Since you mentioned internal condensation, I have to mention that there is a possibility of water damage. While working inside the device, check for any type of moisture or blue/turquoise colored corrosion. If you find any liquid, you should immediately disconnect the battery and allow the tablet to dry out for several days before using it again.

I'm not sure how to check where the screen connects to the board. There isn't any moisture left inside the device (I damaged it about a week ago and just left it to dry without opening the back), but there is some blue/turquoise colored corrosion in a few places (two or three). I am not sure how bad it is.

The corrosion means there may be permanent damage to the logic board. Cleaning the board may allow some of these components to work properly again.

The simplest way to clean the board is the remove it completely from the device, apply some 99% isopropyl alcohol, and scrub the corroded areas with a small toothbrush. If this doesn't work, you can take it to a local repair shop for an ultrasonic cleaning process which will remove any remaining corrosion.
