Quick Question: Will my iPhone 7 boot without a baseband CPU?

My iPhone 7 has a shorted baseband, and its draining battery even though it isn’t used (-200mA) on idle, it seems the PMU is still trying to get the baseband to work, if I remove the baseband CPU, will the iPhone boot and work normally? I use iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 for reference.

If the problem is just the baseband yes, it will boot and work even without it.

So I can just desolder the baseband cpu, and the phone will boot? Right now it can boot but has a no service with an exclaimation mark, plus no modem firmware. I am not planning to restore the phone or update the phone.

@xolto Yes, do not restore, it may not complete successfully and phone might be bricked.

@arbaman Alright, if I update the phone to iOS 13, will it work, or not? Otherwise I will just stick with iOS 12.

@xolto I don't know, I heard iOs 13 doesn't need baseband to work to complete restore, but I've never had a need to do it for myself thus I can't give a first hand confirmation. I don't like DFU troubleshooting, thus I try to avoid the risk of finding myself in that picture.

@arbaman Alright, I will desolder the baseband PMU and CPU to stop draining battery and just use it as an iPod touch. Thanks for your help!
