Back light iMac 27" mid 2011

Hi folks

I had the dreaded black screen thought it was my card busted at first. However, I am getting a faded picture with the cursor showing on my external VGA monitor. I cant seem to get it onto the full screen picture and holding down shift is doing nothing etc. Anyone know if a Replacement LCD Lvds Cable 593-1352 593-1281-A 593-1028 for iMac 27" A1312 might fox this on my main one? Or any other tips? Every time I boot up I have to unplug the thunderbolt/lightning VGA adapter from the back of iMac and plug it back in to get the faded picture up.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Captain P.

Restart your system and press and hold the T key to enter into Target Disk Mode. Do you now see on your internal display a FireWire and Lightning Icon dancing on the screen? Make sure nothing but the keyboard and mouse/trackpad are plugged in.

Reference: Mac startup key combinations

I will check this out later and get back to you, as is like 2.30 am just now and the chime is on full volume, better not wake everyone up. Its like I hit one of them big Gongs at the beginning of Rank entertainment movies on full blast-lol.

Keep you posted buddy-fingers crossed.

Yeah I did the keyboard T-Target mode, but just popped up with white screen and cursor. However, I might try the cable keyboard instead of the bluetooth. When I switched off and on again and took VGA adpter plug out and popped it back in the main screensaver picture came back , but as above question, just the same faded out like sort of background look. I just did this to make sure the picture was still there. I have to now try a different keyboard. Although first time that the screen came on by itself, when pressing the T.

@captainpubwatch - To be clear you did see the icons once you used the USB keyboard ?? If that is true then your dedicated GPU board has failed. If on the other hand the image shows up but fads that would imply the display its self is failing (T-CON board). If placing the lit flashlight directly on there displays glass at a sharp angle and you can see the desktop image and its icons that's telling me the LED driver board has a failure (it might even light up and then fad off).

@danj - Hi Dan, I got there in the end my friend. I was worried there for a wee bit. However, because the picture wasn't coming on the main screen and was just black I thought it really odd that it was showing on the external, I only had a small screen but was faded out slightly as I said, Anyway I thought right-I am going to open this up again and have a look at back light connectors. I do not know how this happened, but the left hand side one was loose and thats the one that clips in. Therefore maybe the last time I had it open it hadn't properly clipped but was seated? Must have been, and my screen keep falling forward all the time and won't stay put so this most likely dislodged it. Therefore all is back to normal now buddy and is hunky dory for the time being.

Got any tips n how to keep this screen sitting securely in back mode would be grateful.

Thanks again fir your help man, much appreciated.

All the best mate
