Why wont my iPhone 6 charge?

How it was damaged: So I was out with my backpack and my phone but the weather was pouring it down. I decided to put my phone in my bag and eventually throughout the day, my bag got soaked along with the phone. I didn’t think my phone would be affected as it wasn’t as if it was submerged in a pool or the sea. I pulled it out and it was dripping and wouldn’t switch on.

How I’ve tried to fix it:

  • Put it in rice
  • Put it in the central heating cupboard
  • Opened it up to see if there was any water damage, nothing obvious
  • Replaced charging dock and internal speaker/ringtone (Prior to this, whenever I put it on charge, a buzzing sound came from the speaker area. When I replaced it, it stopped but still wouldn’t charge)

P.S: I tried to fix it myself because I thought it would be cheaper than having it looked at by a technician.

Thank you and if you have any suggestions I would love to here them right now. If you need any extra information, just ask.

I understand the gut reaction to put it in rice but that's just generally a bad idea as rice is not enough of a desiccant to actually remove any water from the phone. In the meantime any water that might have gotten in and made contact with power rails will slowly eat away at the connections and the corrosion will certainly be worse then if the phone was opened immediately and the battery disconnected.

What I most commonly see on the iPhone 6 with liquid damage is C5202_RF (the capacitor on the bottom side of the motherboard next to the wifi chip) will be shorted to ground and prevent the phone from turning on. You will have to carefully remove the motherboard from the case and inspect the bottom side to ensure that it visually looks okay (and if you have a multimeter handy diode mode measurement should be ~0.4 Volts).

The only step left that’s realistic for a novice, aside from having someone with board level repair experience look at the phone, is to try replacing the battery. Batteries are very vulnerable to water damage.
