Why does my display screen dim/black at start/boot?

when I power on my computer my display screen stays dim or black so that I can barely read it and my login screen just flickers and it won't let me log in

Options

This is almost certainly because of the LCD. You are going to have to replace the LCD on this laptop. The inverter can also fail, but it isn't a likely fault, compared to the screen. The LCD cable is also probably fine.
