I downloaded the latest software, and then it stopped working

Essentially, I pressed the download button and it started doing it, and then it died. I then put it on charge and it charged. I checked it and the apple logo was flicking on and off. It would appear, vanish, the screen would remain in it’s light state and then flicker to light-less, lifeless black, before half a second later the apple logo flicks back on and the cycle repeats. Please help!

Options

Depending on your battery previous condition it might be just a coincidence that it showed during software update which is a power intensive task, but might have happened anytime soon. A battery replacement would be the first and cheapest troubleshooting step.
