Fail to verify firmware when upgrading past Sierra

Installed new logic board + SSD to my MPB 2015.

Now I can’t install anything higher than Sierra. This always fails with a message about how “firmware verification failed”.

Any hints?

Thanks for your detailed reply.

FYI: I had to get an "original" Apple SSD to manage the update. Of course in the Apple store they did not want to do this (because my problem was caused by an inoffical SSD) :-) but I found a nice Apple specialist who replaced the SSD, did the updates and then installed my SSD again.
