Why is my printer suddenly not reading non generic ink after yrs?

I’ve been using a HP 2600 for a few years and have been using non generic brands in the printer and recently the message about loading non generic brands has disappeared and the printer now is refusing to take non generic ink and this has never happened with this printer or any other printer. How can I disable the printer feature preventing me from using non generic brands as it was doing this beforehand. It was only within the last few months or so the feature mysteriously vanished.
