How to switch it on without the power button?

Hi,

I had a problem touching my trackpad with wet fingers. It started going crazy, so I switched my mac off, dried the trackpad, and waited. I had to try several times to get it on again, and once it was on the trackpad and the keyboard were both not working correctly. I took the logic board out to check it, and see if any water had reached it. I never managed to get my keyboard back, and unless i touch the keyboard, the trackpad is working well as well. So i decided to use an external keyboard. It works.

Now, 1 week later my computer will not switched on!

Is it possible to try to switch my macbook on directly from the logic board, without using the button?

I may have damaged the internal keyboard cable trying to clean it, so that is why it is not switching on. Do you have parts to replace the internal keyboard?

Many thanks,

Aurélie.

Yes, I do it all the time, here's how you can too.

With the back of your macbook open and the screen hinge faced towards you, the 'two solder bumps' that you need to short together are located on your side of the trackpad connector that plugs onto the logic board. To help locate the trackpad connector, to the left you will see a flexible flat cable which is the keyboard cable, and to the left of that, the RAM.

I haven't had many Mac's open but on most standard Motherboards there are jumpers you can jump together in order to start the machine. To find them you'll have to disassemble it and follow the start button's wiring itself. This may not work for your Mac however but on most Window's based desktops and laptops this works.

well i just replaced the keyboard on my mbp 15 unibody mid 2009 and the power button is attached to the keyboard...so i say no because you would have to open up the keyboard just to access what Bobby Thompson suggested.

i see u got the mid 2009 macbook...and i am most then certain that yours too, has the power button attached to the keyboard..and well since the keyboard no longer works...that can be the issue why it wont turn on..because the power button is together w the keyboard...so u could relace the keyboard and it might solve it...:o

I have the same problem on my Macbook Air. The power button doesn't work. Not sure if the following works for Macbooks/Macbook Pro but if you undo the case cover and disconnect the plug to the battery, reconnect it then open the cover and attach the magsafe adapter to charge it, it will spring into life. I now have mine set to power on itself at 8am each mornings if attached to the power so if I am stuck and the computer has frozen I leave it to discharge overnight, connect the cable in the morning before 8 and it comes back on.

To be honest, it's been like that for a few months and I'm not seriously inconvenienced.
