My computer won’t turn on at all after being unplugged and moved

This is a reoccurring issue I have had since owning the computer in late 2015. It works fine if I can get it to turn on. The past 3 or 4 times I’ve had to unplug and move it I have been able to get it to turn on by tapping the back near the power cord. After it turns on once it restarts and reboots fine until I need to unplug and move it again. I just moved and haven’t been able to get it to turn on this time. I’ve never found anything about an issue like this online and I have no idea what is wrong with it.

Take a look at the metal prongs on the plug of the electrical cord. Are they straight and untarnished? A charging cord with damaged prongs may need replacing.

Check the cord/power supply interface. Is the cord’s connection to the power supply firm and stable?

If all this checks out, then getting a new cord or power supply may fix the issue. I would try a new charging cord first since it would be less expensive.

Before after getting the system to turn back on did you need to reset the date and time?

If the answer is yes, then you have a simple issue! Your CMOS battery has failed! It’s a rare thing as when you have your system plugged in the power cord offers phantom power to your system to keep the settings and the clock running. So when you unplug the system for a duration the battery keeps things going.
