Why does the monitor no longer stay in place...it just flops forward

Display does not stay at the adjusted angle, as if fasteners have come loose. Always returns to a facing down position.

Is this something I could fix at home or would I need to take it to a repair person. Are there specialized tools available on iFixit for this repair?

Thank you!

You have a very limited window of time here to get this fixed for free!

Apple had a defect in the stand hinge as the counter spring would become loose. It’s a big job as the logic board will need to be removed to gain access to the hinge part that needs to be replaced.

Apple Offering Refunds to Customers Who Paid for iMac Hinge Repairs

Contact Apple support to arrange a repair. If you missed the window I would just use a wedge between the case and the stand.

If you really want to fix this on your own it will require removing the display and the logic board: Changement carte mère iMac Intel 27" EMC 2639 Make sure you follow the guide to the letter! As you can damage the display if you don’t. You’ll need this kit to get the needed tool [produit lié absent ou désactivé : IF174-005]

With the logic board out you can now get to the hinge to repair it.
