iPod Touch 4, white screen

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen that does absolutely nothing other than show a white screen when the home button or the power button is pressed. I have never opened it up before, the screen is the original, and iTunes doesn’t detect it. I can’t even do a hard reset.

Edit - before I forget, no, I haven’t dropped it either.

Does an Apple logo show up when you power it on from coldboot or does it just go straight to a white screen?

@littens4life Nothing. Immediately just the white screen.

@amatsuda223 You likely have a logic board issue... Sorry about your iPod.

par

@littens4life Figured that was the issue - oh well.

any cause that you can tell or just randomly happened one day? I have had a water damaged iPod touch do this. That is what i would check for first if there is no physical damage that you can see. I doubt it is under any warranty at this point, GO ahead and try to open it up if you’d like. The 4th gen is not very fun to work on and requires soldering to remove the battery :( Best of luck to you!

I used it for a while back in 2013, got it out of the drawer with all of my unused tech, charged it and 10 seconds later that's what I got. I never even used it much...

I've tried opening an old 2nd gen and I sure as !&&* do not want to deal with these things again. I don't have that 2nd gen with me anymore, as you can probably tell what happened.

Update: I found a repair guide and it's miles better than that 2nd gen. Still difficult.

I Would try a new battery first thing, It can cause lots of things to go astray when they go out and start putting out the wrong voltage. If there is no other noticeable water or physical damage that is.

@zathbtc (Re-reply because I have absolutely no idea how to use the iFixit forums) That battery has somehow managed to hold its power to get the screen to still turn white after 2 days. I'll give it a shot though.

Probably a poor connection or static/grounded screen. Open and inspect. Disconnect the battery and LCD. Reconnect and test before putting it back together. Try a new LCD if that doesn’t work but a replacement device might make more sense at that stage.

Good luck

I'm doubting it's the LCD because I noticed a plethora of other oddities (e.g. no charging sound/display doesn't turn on when charger is plugged in/removed) but I'll give that a shot

Not the LCD. I tried.

Put it in DFU mode (while powered up, hold home and power for 15 secs, and keep holding home for another 10), and restore it through iTunes. If it’s not detected, the charging connector is likely loose or disconnected.

I can't put it into DFU mode at all. No idea why. It's strange.

I don't think the charging connector is broken since how else would I have gotten it to turn on?
