Does agitator supposed to spin non stop or spin & stop during washing?

Hello.

The agitator has worn off dog teeth. I couldn't find proper socket so I temporary fixed it by adding a strip of rubber from old bicycle tube between dogs and agitator's teeth. When tested manually it only spins top part freely clockwise and catches bottom part when spin counter clockwise - good.

However during wash cycle the agitator seems to be just spinning clockwise, without the "stop" motion, as if there is no friction to stop it.

Is this normal?

Thank you.

@vanowm it should move back and forth to agitate. I suggest you replace the agitator dogs first and then re-evaluate

Thanks. In that case, I see nothing in dogs that would allow it to "slow down" the spinning.

A possible cause for free spinning is the thrust washer (plastic ring with tabs between top and bottom agitators), which also has worn off "tabs".

Yet again bicycle tube to the rescue - cut out a ring, put it on top of the thrust washer and now it's moving back and worth.

Btw, since dogs were not broken, I used hacksaw and cut new teeth in them, now works without rubber strips.

Just a follow up, a new thrust washer fixed the issue.
