I dropped my phone in water.. Screen shows pixelated colors small like

I dropped phone in water. Worked fine first 20 mins but after that the all the colors of the spectrum showed themselves. All small like sand thay covered up the whole screen. I restarted it 2times but no luck. I kept it in room for about 12-13 hours and after that I have cleaned the battery free of moisture but some of it would be inside and the battery seems to be a little bit swollen. I have now put it in a trunk of rice.. Will it work? Please give tips… plsssssss

Hi,

The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone’s operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and doesn’t stop until it has been properly cleaned away.

Rice does not fix the problems cause by corrosion Rice is for dinner, not repair

Do not try to charge or to turn on the phone and then remove the battery as soon as possible so as to minimize any further problems.

Next you need to disassemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it, check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the concentration (%) of IPA the better

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb, be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. Also remove any shields that may be covering some components and clean there as the water may have got in under them as well. The ends of any cables and their connectors will also need to be cleaned. If the battery appears to be swollen it may be safer to replace it.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to the ifixit Motorola Moto G4 Plus guides that may help.

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service, experienced in liquid damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later. It isn’t going to fix itself.

@Metal Skull

It doesn't fix itself, so the sooner that it is cleaned away properly the greater the chances of the phone working properly.

There is no set time frame as to when it will totally fail or even if it will totally fail at all but it still may have some problems e.g. some functions not working

Corrosion can depend on factors such as humidity, usage etc. There can be an area of corrosion that when it is "moist" (humidity) it may become more conductive to electricity from the battery. If the corrosion is bridging parts of the circuit that are not supposed to be connected with each other, when there is electricity flowing through it then damage can occur.

That is why it is important to not charge the battery or to turn the phone on and to disconnect the battery, so as to minimize any damage to that what has already occurred and then clean the phone before more damage occurs due to the reactions between different metals caused by the liquid and subsequent corrosion i.e. galvanic reaction
