MacBook SERVICE BATTERY status and where is it stored?

I know for a fact that Service Battery status is stored in OSX files somewhere but not sure where??

  • Reinstalling Macbook removes this status.
  • Running Macbook from external OSX removes this status.
  • Reinstalling OSX and migrating original OSX removes the status.

Id like to know where is this status hidden in OSX files to remove it without reinstalling??

Anyone has any idea where to look for it?

The OS does not hold the setting! What you encountered is when the OS install process ran it cleared the setting held in the SMC EEROM area after SMC has read off the battery cycle count and/or when the voltage sensor drops below a set threshold.

You can see the see your batteries status using CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Ajout d'images à une question existante

Not sure if you are correct. I can start this Macbook using other USB boot drive with different OSX and status is gone. No installation there and NO SMC reset done.

It feels to me like the setting is stored in OSX somewhere and not in SMC or battery.

Also 3 days ago I reinstalled customers Macbook with Service Battery status. Status was gone on clean osx and after migrating the data. I am doing full battery cycles for 3 days and status is not comming back.

@windcatcher - How to reset SMC How to reset the SMC of your Mac Note "the can resolve certain issues related to power, battery, fans, and other features." Does that help you explain why this is not software but a hardware level issue.

How about running CoconutBattery and posting a snapshot to prove me wrong ;-}

Ressetting SMC, resseting PRAM or unplugging battery never fix this status nowadays.

Starting with different USB boot drive or fresh install always fix this status and that is why I suspect some flag in OSX files and not only SMC EEROM.

I repair Macs and have many of them every day.

Some of it are used on a charger all the time and get service battery status. In most cases battery is still fine ...

What I need is fast way of removing this status and then instructing the user to properly charge &discharge it every few days.

@windcatcher - Without seeing CoconutBattery screenshot you are not telling me anything useful to figure out what's wrong. Just because your symptoms go away magically is useless info.

Using sound engineering processes and diagnostics is the only way we can move forward here.
