New battery not recognized, old battery still works
I just completed the guide for replacing my battery using an official iFixit Battery Kit and it’s not being recognized.
- Only powers on when the magsafe power adapter is plugged in.
- No battery icon appears in the top toolbar.
- The magsafe adapter light glows orange.
- My System Report says there’s no battery installed.
- When I plug my old battery back in, it still works and the battery icon shows up.
- I’ve reset the PRAM and SMC multiple times.
What should I do? My suspicion is that iFixit sent me a dead battery.
Update (11/08/2020)
So the strangest thing… as I’ve been waiting for my replacement battery, I’ve kept my laptop plugged in for about two weeks on and off since I first posted this question. I travelled from the high dessert to the ocean and when I booted up my computer, the battery icon showed up finally and showed 55%. So somehow along the way, my new battery started working. Here is the screenshot from Coconut. I’m wondering if I should trust this battery or if I should install the replacement. I will probably test out the replacement and compare using Coconut Buddy. Thoughts?
