What does this connector do under the ram?

Hi there,

My mac recently is running with some problem, which is randomly shut down for no reason. When I remove the bottom cover I noted that there are two connectors under the ram, one of them is under the plastic base. Is this normal? Can anyone advise what do these connectors for?? It looks that they are meant to be contacted with the bottom cover

many thanks

Oh Boy! Someone really went wild here!

First the SO-DIMM you have in your system down has been damaged! Someone took a grinder to it the shave off the upper edge as they tried installing a tall SO-DIMM where a standard SO-DIMM is required!

Here is what it should look like

So you’ll need to get fresh RAM which does not exceed the height limit.

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply and sorry for my poor photography skill. The SO-DIMM doesn't actually exceed the bar. They have been upgraded few years ago, the computer was working perfectly for the past few years until recently.

I was wondering if the connectors on the grounding bar should be the same high?

@liyuchang - Surprisingly! I encountered such a trimmed SO-DIMM !! People do some very strange things! I guess I jumped into believing seeing a second case would be possible. ;-}

While one of the tabs is a bit pushed in on the grounding bar, its not a big issue as long as you have one in contact with the bottom case cover. Is the cover dented?

I can't see any dented on the cover.
