Looking for parts to repair a 2.5" WD Blue 3D NAND SSD

I bought a broken 1tb SSD for the purpose of trying my hand at fixing it for fun. I got it and took it apart and found some missing diodes or capacitors. I would like help finding the parts I need to repair the SSD. I found pictures of the board online and circled the parts that are missing from the board. I hope I could get some help IDing and finding where to purchase. I believe the markings I see on them are “&#@ D1” on the bigger one, and N2 on the smaller one. The last image is the board I'm working on.

May have helped if I posted an image of the one I am working on. Looks like there used to be something there for at least the bigger diode

@jayeff did you mean these two?

Got a WD 250GB SSD and opened it up to see if they had any similar chips. I think I found the missing chips I need for the 1TB drive.

Got another WD SSD and may have found the chips I need to repair the 1TB

The FA_G on the Diode actually stands for FAGOR ELECTRONICA (FA_G :-) without the _) and is really not an indicator for what diode this is. The marking N2 looks like it could be a PESD5V0S1UB SMD ESD Diode. As you can see, repairing broken electronics is difficult unless you have another board that you can get the components from or at least measure their values etc. or you have the schematic.

Hi @oldturkey03 ,

I always wonder how components go "missing" from supposedly sealed units.

Coming adrift from the board I get but then you'd think that they would still be there somewhere upon opening ;-)

I appreciate the help.

I found it funny that they could be missing from the enclosure too. I bought it advertised as broken on purpose, but the label was still over the screws so it seemed like it was still not opened. Suspicious.

Was hoping someone that had opened one of these up before or had one around could help to ID the parts.

@skippysf @jayeff remember that the parts are not always there. With every revision there seems to be components that just are "not stuffed" and thus appear to be missing. I have a lot of those issues with Apple logic boards. The schematic says a component is there but the logic board just never had it. It's a PITA trying to fix things when schematics are so scarce.

Just wondering if they're actually meant to be there.

They might use the same board with different configurations for different applications.

Can't see on the images too well but are there any designated with a F (fuse) or big enough to be one, that you can test to see if it is open or not with an Ohmmeter?

Fuses are generally near to the connector.

Maybe just test all components near to the connector just in case one tests open or a dead short

@oldturkey03 Just had the same thought and didn't notice your comment ;-)

Check out the 6 pin IC just above the 6th pin from the right in the last image you posted and also the component to the right of the chip .

I wondering if it is a voltage regulator of some sort. Check what you get between the pins of the IC and also across the component. There may be various resistance values but hopefully not an open circuit between all of them if you get my drift and also not on the smaller component - it doesn't look like a capacitor so there should be some reading.

This is only a guess but you've got to start somewhere.
