iPhone 8 overheating and dropping service

I bought a used iPhone 8 through a private sale (yes I know, not ideal but a broke college kid has to survive) about a year ago with no obvious issues minus a crack in the back glass. Upon using it for a day, I started to notice the phone would get warm with general use and will lose connection and shut off. It doesn’t get too hot to touch, it just gets very warm and more warm than seems ideal for electronics. Here’s the chain of reactions that never fails:

-Intensive apps such as google maps, social media, games, etc will cause the phone to get warm

-When the phone gets warm enough, “4G LTE” will drop

-If I continue to use it under WiFi, the “No service” indication will appear, at this point I can still use wifi if connected

-Continuing to use it will cause it to get even warmer and it will shut off, I never get a “high temperature” indication

-Upon rebooting, I will have no service until the phone has cooled off which can be achieved if I simply lock it and put it in my pocket or a cool environment for 10-20 minutes

This whole process doesn’t take much more than a couple minutes, it heats up quick and is only accelerated by charging, and wireless charging isn’t even much of an option for me. The heat seems to be focuses on the center and right side of the phone where the board is. The phone is practically useless in the summer due to environmental heat and I never put a case on it to allow itself to cool off. If I hold the phone in front of air conditioning or put it on ice it will work beautifully forever. This has become a huge pain for me as I’m making it through school currently as a Grubhub driver and I can’t seem to use my phone more than 5 minutes at a time.

I’m also very comfortable making repairs and have a good amount of experience in general iPhone component replacement but I am not aware of how to trouble shoot an issue like this. I have access to micro-soldering equipment if need be as I go to school as an aircraft mechanic. So far I’ve replaced the battery as I’ve read there’s a temp sensor in there but no luck. I’ve reset the phone entirely and have stayed up to date on updates the past year. Any pointers are very appreciated!

Thanks!

I have had the same issue before. The A11 chip is an extreme heat creator. I would recommend telling apple as that is a fault in the device.
