New setup, USB 2.0 not working.

Hello everyone,

I have built a new PC, but USB 2.0 does not work. When I connect a keyboard I don't get into the BIOS or something like that. When I connect a PS2 keyboard, I do enter the bios. Once in the BIOS through the PS2 keyboard, the USB keyboard does not work either. When I use a USB stick 2.0, it is not recognized in the BIOS. A USB stick 3.0 is seen. I am using the ports on the motherboard. It concerns the ASRock B450 Pro4. All USB ports provide 5V.

Who can help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Which USB 2.0 doesn’t work? Do you mean USB 2.0 devices in any USB port (i.e 2.0 of 3.1) or in only the USB 2.0 ports

You have 8 Back Panel USB ports (2 - USB 2.0 by PS/2 port, 4 - USB 3.1 Gen 1 and 2 - USB 3.1 Gen 2 and internally 2 - USB 2.0 and 1 - USB 3.1 Gen1 headers.

What do you mean by “I am using the ports on the motherboard.” ? That seems odd as they are ALL on the motherboard. Do you perhaps mean the “on the Back Panel” or “the headers on the motherboard”. Also does the PS/2 keyboard not work when you are in the BIOS as you say “the USB keyboard does not work either.”?

Have you tried all the USB ports with the keyboard when in Windows 10 and in which ones is it recognised?

Which exact AMD CPU are you using?

Which BIOS version? There are 14 of them!

Be very careful because the sequence of updates

(''Note: before v2.00 Please install * Please install "AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.50.16.01_WHQL" or a later version before updating to this BIOS and so on.'' )

and the particular CPU model is very important i.e. Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge.

Go into Device Manager by pressing the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click to select Device Manager.

Look for a yellow triangle containing an exclamation point over a device’s icon which indicates devices that aren’t working properly — possibly because of problems with their drivers.

Any ways that is a start.

Incidentally I have the same motherboard.

@aactech Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I mean no USB 2.0 device works on any port. With the ports on the MB I mean not the case USB ports, so I am plugging the devices directly to the MB.

The PS/2 keyboard does work in the BIOS, but if I am in the BIOS using the PS/2, the USB keyboard does not work in the BIOS, the PS/2 does work. Also in the OS the USB keyboard/mouse is not working. I also think this is not a problem with the OS, but with the MB.

Bios version: 4.60

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

@Uas

Don't know but try the following:

1. Clear the CMOS to get the BIOS back to default in case of any corruption (see p.27 of the user manual

2. Disable Fast boot in BIOS (see p.71)and restart and check. This one is just a wild guess as it prevents the USB from being used to boot and you did say that the USB 3.0 ports were working OK.

Very strange that all the USB 2.0 ports aren't responding as there would be more than 1 USB controller I would imagine. Have you tried the case USB ports which would be connected to the header pins for USB 2.0 #1-2, 3-4, (see p.7 Item#21 & #22) as this may be a different controller than the one for USB 2.0 #5-6 which are connected directly to the motherboard?

@jayeff I tried the reset and Fast boot was already disabled. Can I assume the board is broken?

@Uas

Did you try the USB ports connected to the front panel at all, you didn't say?

If they're also not working (or even if they are and the back motherboard ports aren't) then it's starting to look like a board problem.

If under warranty get it replaced

@Uas No error appears in the Device Manager for the USB 2.0 ports?
