My HTC U12+ wont turn on and no orange charging light

I had been using it right before this happened, it was low on storage space but when this happens it usually starts saying apps cant work and need to be closed. This wasn’t the case - I had just taken a video on facebook messenger and sent to a guy for work, set the phone down to chat and when I looked back screen was black, hit the power to light it up again but it didn’t. Can still feel the vibration when pushing the power button but nothing happens even holding it down and no light on charger. The battery has been getting worse too with holding charge and was prob 15% full - any ideas?

I have a similar problem with my u12+. Did you find a solution as to the ultimate cause?

@darob00 unfortunately not, left the phone for a couple of weeks and when I went to try again the new battery is now useless and won't even charge.....keep in touch if you have any luck

Anyone of you two had luck with this one in the meantime? Unfortunately the same thing happened to me too today. It keeps on showing the white HTC logo, goes black and repeats over and over again :(

My phone dropped and could not get the phone on after. It did vibrate when pushing the power button at first. Plugging in the charger did nothing, no LED. Couple minutes later I found the phone getting warm so eventually opened it up and disconnected the battery. Visually went trough the phone ut found nothing except for a slightly warped microphone board due to previous repair. So I am also trying to figure out how to fix so I can at least save the data before moving on.

Hi,

Have you tried using a different charger or charger cable and checked if the phone now started to charge, you didn’t say?

Use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the phone’s charge port to ensure that there is no lint etc lodged in the port enclosure that may prevent a good electrical connection which is maybe why the battery is not charging properly and therefore the phone won’t turn on. Also check that all the pins in the charge port are not damaged etc.

If there is any debris in the port enclosure, do not use a metal pin or probe to try and get it out as you may damage the pins or cause electrical problems in the phone. Instead try to clear it out by using a vacuum cleaner.

If the charge port appears to be OK then perhaps there may be a problem with the battery. Try replacing the battery and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s a teardown video of your model phone that may help. It shows how to open the phone so that access to the battery is possible. The battery is be seen being disconnected at about 4:00 minutes into the video. Unfortunately the video doesn’t actually show the battery being removed but you should be able to work out how it is done.

Replacement batteries are available online. Just search for HTC U12+ battery to get results for suppliers that suit you.

If replacing the battery yourself seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service and ask for a quote.

Hi - yes I did try a different cable and charger with no luck. It didnt do it before but when I hold the power button down long enough now it starts and shows the initial HTC Powered by android screen, goes black, shows that screen again and then goes off completely again - still no charging light and i left it on HTC charger over night (no heat when charging at all). Do you think it could be the battery still? I have ordered one but im worried its something else

@Stephen Maginnis

If it doesn't show that it is charging and you have changed the charger etc then there is something wrong with the charging circuit for a start or the software that controls it.

Does it start at all with the charger connected? Not quite sure whether you have tried it or not

A faulty battery could be affecting things so if after replacing the battery it still does it at least you have eliminated it as the cause.

A lot of times finding a problem is a process of elimination.

You could always try a hard reset before replacing the battery in case it is corrupted firmware data that is the cause.

Be aware that you will erase all your data and downloaded apps if you decide to do this, as it will restore the phone to its factory default state - it will be like when you first bought it. So hopefully you have recent backups available

When the phone has been reset (if it does do this) then check if it works OK. If it won't reset then most probably then it is a hardware problem or you could try reflashing the firmware etc.

Here's a link that may help

So yea I tried with charger and it didnt start - I tried again after taking off the charger and it fully started! Extremely slow start - logo turning in slow motion. I was able to unlock the screen for a short while and turn off wifi and data (didnt want lots of messages coming I then wouldnt be able to access) and it went black again shortly after. I do not want to do a hard restart and erase data unfort. But the fact it now started fully struggling makes me hopeful its the batter (it did show 95% full even though the charging light is still not showing when attached to power)

@Stephen Maginnis

Try starting in safe mode and check if that changes anything.

If it works OK then a downloaded app may be the problem as far as performance goes although the no charging is still not good.

Have you checked that the phone's charge port is OK i.e. not blocked with lint etc preventing a good electrical connection? Use a strong light and a magnifying glass and visually inspect it. It there is something in there do not use a metal pin or probe to get it out as you may damage the pins or cause electrical problems in the phone, use a vacuum cleaner to try and clear it .

So i took apart and replaced the battery with official HTC new one - same issue. (connected to power - 22% batterry, turned on and it stuck at HTC). I managed to get it to start 3 times in a row later today (i have video) but to start in safe mode you have to hold down power button to get the shutdown menu - then hold the power off icon until safe mode comes up - it freezes and turns off before I can do that.....there is no way of doing it from startup is there. Yea port seems clean and light comes on sometimes for charging depending on what state its in
