The haptic feedback stopped working after battery replacement

Hi,

I recently replaced my MacBook Pro’s battery with no issue. I was able to clean off the dust and dirt that was all in there while doing the replacement, fixing the fan issue I also had.

Turning it on, it worked perfect, better than before the battery replacement apart from the issue of no haptic feedback.

Tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM, nothing worked. I looked into seeing if i did anything wrong or not attached the trackpad to the motherboard properly but that isn’t the issue. Don’t know if its a hardware issue because it worked fine before the battery replacement from IFIXIT and i made sure not to get any of the adhesive remover on there and keep it as clean as possible, so I don’t know what the issue is and how to fix it.

Will I have to buy a new trackpad because I’m not really fond on getting a new one especially if the issue is due to the new battery not the trackpad itself?

You will need to check everything is connected and placed correctly. If not replace haptic button or trackpad.

I’ve done this four times now and I definitely don’t think it’s anything to do with the connection. The trackpad is also undamaged, as it didn’t tinker with it and kept it to the side during the replacement.

I would go back and inspect the cable and logic board connectors for a damaged pin.

Otherwise, I would just replace it MacBook Pro 13" Retina (A1708, A2159, A2289) Trackpad Cable As it’s easy to damage the cable its self in the process of taking it off the battery.

You’ll need to follow this guide Remplacement du pavé tactile du MacBook Pro 13" avec touches de fonctions 2017 to get to the other end. Once you have the Touchpad out flip it over so you see the back side. Now carefully lift the ZIF connector latch from the middle so you can slide out the ribbon cable.

I don’t think you damaged the Touchpad its self. The process of replacing the battery shouldn't affect the trackpad, the solvent won’t hurt the electronics. And lastly, the battery has no bearing on the Touchpad directly either.

I’ll check the pins again. I did make sure to be gentle with detaching the cable but I’ll never know if I don’t check it first. I completely removed and reconnected the wire yesterday without checking the same way as described in that second picture but it still didn’t work. Don’t know if I just have to be patient and wait.

I’m also as we speak reinstalling MacOS to see if that changes anything.

@henry-onyema - I would just replace the cable at this point. The act of lifting the cable off the battery can be stressful on it. I've had to replace a few.

Updating your OS won't change this
